Why You Should Not Use the Services of a Courier or “forwarder” to Obtain a Passport
If you are flying abroad for the holidays, you need your documents in order. Now , the most important thing is your passport. If you need to get a new passport, this is why you shouldn’t spend money on courier service.
It would seem that courier service will save you the hassle of shipping or submitting forms yourself, but the Department of State warns that if you are using Form DS-11 (first time applicant and all minors), you will have anyway to show up in person and the other services they offer usually don’t cost money either, from special photography services (which you can get from your local post office) to “urgent” services that don’t save time and just add extra fees.
Since courier services are not affiliated with the state, they cannot influence how quickly you receive your passport. If you need a passport urgently (for example, you are traveling in a few weeks), the Department of State has several options for expediting or renewing your passport application. For most of these, you will need to apply in person with the usual paperwork and make an appointment.
