Buffering Foods Help Curb Food Cravings and Maintain a Healthy Diet
When you are trying to lose weight, you probably thought, “I felt good this week, so I deserve this triple peanut butter chocolate brownie.” Instead of indulging yourself, think of these buffering foods, which seem like treats to soothe your inner saboteur.
Buffer food isn’t necessarily cheat food, it’s just food that’s “good enough” when a reasonable amount makes you feel satisfied . This way, you will continue to make good choices throughout the day and only do something when it is really worth your attention and calories. Here are some examples of buffering products:
- Banana
- Protein or regular smoothie
- Frozen Protein Fruit Smoothie
- Two squares of chocolate
- A tablespoon of peanut butter or other nut butter
This is the opposite of telling yourself which foods are prohibited. Rather, it encourages you to think about the food you like, but also remember the minimum amount you need to feel satisfied. (Because let’s face it, there is a certain point when the food you love no longer pleases your taste buds as much as the first or second bite.)
