We know there is some link between happiness and using your imagination , but recent research shows that any creative activity – even the smallest one – can help you beat the blues. It only takes one dose of creativity a day.
The study, published in the Journal of Positive Psychology , involved over 650 participants who kept a daily diary for two weeks. They were asked to describe their mood each day and rate how creative they were. After analyzing the diaries, the researchers concluded that a little creativity goes a long way in order to be happier in the future. The participants, who once did creative work, significantly improved their spirits the next day. Overall, they reported feeling more energetic, enthusiastic, and enthusiastic.
These results may not sound overwhelming, but here’s what’s interesting: it didn’t take a lot of creativity for the participants to take advantage of the benefits. Only one small creative activity a day helped. And you don’t have to be a skilled artist. Something as simple as a pointless drawing, a joke, or even a dream will do.
