How to Survive a Holiday Office Party

Corporate holiday parties offer a respite from the usual stress of work, but they are also notorious opportunities to embarrass yourself. Here’s how to have a holiday party without waking up with regret.

First things first – you might be tempted to do a pre-play and take the edge off before arriving, but this is never a good idea, especially when surrounded by your professional peers. And dress nicely, but modestly; stick to a sport coat or cocktail dress and ditch the elf costume.

When things are underway, it is probably best to avoid controversial topics in conversation (“Hey boss, do you think Bernie would win?”). Have two drinks or so , and once everyone gets too relaxed to calm down, it might be ghost time. Then you will be ready to start the new year without a hangover or staff complaints.
