If You Are Traveling With Gifts, Be Prepared for TSA to Unpack Them
If you are traveling with gifts, you do not need to wrap them. As TSA points out, wrapped gifts are fine, but unpacking may be required in some cases.
On his blog, TSA explains:
Packaged gifts are allowed but discouraged: … we may have to unpack gifts. If the gift has something to check, we may have to open it. Our officers go out of their way not to spoil the gift wrapping, but this is not a guarantee and also slows down the queue for everyone when we have to do it.
You can try to avoid this by at least making sure your gift is TSA approved . However, it is probably best to be careful and avoid gift wrapping altogether. This way, you won’t be lingering in line or wasting time. More tips for traveling with gifts can be found in the links below.
