Rest of the Day: Apple Removes Estimated Battery Remaining From MacOS
Apple’s latest update for macOS removes the “time remaining” estimate of battery life that many people use to gauge their use. They removed the rating because it didn’t fit the volatile usage, and only the battery life estimate was left. About this and much more in the news.
- In particular, macOS Sierra 10.12.2 removes the time estimate. Simply put, a laptop runs at idle for longer than an overloaded laptop, and modern processors can dramatically change their performance and power requirements, making it difficult to determine “time remaining.” Perhaps it will come back in a later update. Meanwhile, time battery life was a common complaint among users of the latest MacBook Pro with touch panels. [MacRumors]
