Best Voice Recorder App for IPhone
For some reason, there are tons of different voice recording apps on the iPhone, but very few of them do anything more than the free Apple Voice Memos app. We love Just Press Record because it manages to justify its asking price while offering a different feature and feature set than Apple.

Where is it best
As the name suggests, when you open Just Press Record, you see a large record button. Click this button and the app will start recording. It’s simple, fast and easy, and this is exactly what you need here. In addition, Just Press Record does its best to simplify the audio recording process. This means you can start recording a note instantly from your lock screen using a widget in the Notification Center, hard-pressing an icon on your home screen, or directly from your Apple Watch.
Just Press Record is also the only option we’ve found that includes transcription software, and while it’s about as accurate as Siri’s voice dictation, it’s a welcome addition nonetheless. If you’re one person speaking clearly into an iPhone microphone, Just Press Record does a great job of transcribing, but it gets really confusing if you’re trying to record a group of people.
Transcription is not only useful for translating voice to text, but it also allows you to search in voice recordings just like in a text document. This alone is worth the money if you take a lot of voice memos and don’t want to organize them manually.
Where it fails
The only Just Press Record feature that is missing compared to the other options is the editing features. Depending on why you are using voice recording software, this can be a hindrance, but if you just want a way to take quick notes or record lectures, editing is usually not required. Just Press Record also assumes that you want to search the transcriptions to find what you’re looking for, and doesn’t offer much in terms of organization other than putting files in specific date folders. This can be a hindrance for those hoping to organize files in a certain way. Just Press Record costs $ 5 but is expensive, but the transcription justifies the cost of entry.
Competition
While there are many voice recording apps out there, most don’t offer anything other than Apple’s own Voice Memos app (free). In fact, voice memos are great for most people. With it, you can quickly jot down notes, crop them with a lightweight editor, and catalog them as you see fit. If that’s all you have to do, then the free app already installed on your phone is plenty.
Voice Recorder (Free / $ 1.99) is arguably the most popular third-party voice recording option on the App Store, and it’s a solid app for anyone looking for a slightly updated version of Voice Memos. It offers the basics, including unlimited recording time, basic editing, and audio looping capability. On top of that, it has several robust organization options, including organizing records in a traditional folder structure. You can also back up your notes to various cloud services or password protect your notes. If Just Press Record’s transcription and search functionality isn’t interesting to you, but you still need more than voice memos, Voice Recorder is a solid intermediate option that adds some great organizational tools as well.
If you don’t need a dedicated voice recorder app, both Evernote (free) and OneNote (free) have voice recording options where you can add a voice recording to any note. This is great for students recording lectures or if you are recording meeting notes. The recording process is a bit buried for both, so if you’re not already using any app for your notes, they aren’t worth using just audio recordings.
