These Three Strategies Will Help You Maintain Your New Year’s Fitness Decisions

Health and fitness is the most common New Year’s decision for most people. If you want to achieve this goal – or any other goal in the new year, psychologists recommend these three strategies.

Researchers at the British Psychological Society studied 60 students who were asked to keep a diary, which recorded their attempts to shoot for a specific target. The results showed that three habits are critical to achieving fitness goals:

  • If the student pondered over their attempt diary, identifying what worked and what didn’t in their methods.
  • If the person has been held accountable and received feedback through a support group, expert, friends, or family.
  • If mini-goals have been created leading to a larger goal.

The diaries especially helped motivate students by building self-confidence. Life Calendar, the app we reviewed earlier, can be a good diary for this purpose if you need one to get started, or you can always use an old-fashioned pen and paper .
