The Best Way to Get Rid of Vomit Stains From a Suit or Dress
If you’ve overdone the open bar at a big company party , this trick will make your suit, dress, or other non-washable item look fresh and vomit-free again.
You can’t just throw a suit or pretty dress in the wash, so what do you do? As cleaning expert Jolie Kerr explains at Esquire, vomit stains are a type of protein stain, so you’ll need something enzymatic to break them down properly. Start by removing any “debris” with a damp cloth, spoon, or butter knife. And then take a dishwashing detergent or washing powder:
Dissolve a small amount of detergent in a small bowl of warm water. Using a sponge or soft cloth soaked in the solution and wrung out very well, blot the stain, working in the direction of the grain to prevent pilling or felting, rinse the cloth and repeat until the stain disappears. Honestly, the hardest part of this process is to be patient. Just work slowly, avoid rubbing the fabric or using too much detergent.
Once you remove as much as you can, rinse the affected area with cool water. Then press down with a dry towel and air dry. Kerr notes that the key to this work is saving detergents and water. So don’t go overboard with lather and your clothes should look like new.
