Three Tricks to Get the Most Out of Your Cheap Camera Lens

The lens you use with your camera plays a huge role in determining the quality of your photos, but many casual photographers don’t want to invest in expensive lenses and stick with what comes with their camera. Here are some ways to expand the functionality of the supplied lens.

The entry-level lens that comes with an interchangeable lens camera is called a “bundled” lens and is generally cheap, versatile and functional, meaning nothing out of the ordinary. In this video from the Koldunov brothers, we will learn a few tricks that will help you save a little time using cheap bundled lenses.

Their first suggestion is to take a portrait in multiple frames and stitch them together in Photoshop. Thanks to this your photo will look like as if they were taken to a large medium-format camera, and it is similar to the method Brenizera , though less scenic.

You can also try flipping the lens if you want to take multiple macro shots, and you can even achieve a rudimentary tilt-shift effect by simply holding and tilting the lens in front of the camera to adjust the focus plane. (However, avoid dust and fingerprints when using these methods.) Nothing will give a cheap lens the performance of expensive glass, but a little experimentation can go a long way in adding some new flavor to your photography.
