How Many People Does It Take at a Party to Make a Keg of Beer Stand

If you are planning a big party or game day extravaganza, you might be asking yourself if it might not be cheaper to buy a keg of beer instead of a few cases. Here’s a simple rule of thumb you can use to find out.

Kegs of beer are attractive because they produce a lot of beers for less money, you won’t be left with a bunch of cans and bottles, and you don’t have to free up space in the fridge for all six cans. However, you probably won’t need it at a Super Bowl party. As Allison Russo of The Kitchn explains , a standard US beer keg has a volume of about 15.5 gallons, which is roughly the same as 165 12-ounce bottles of beer. That’s about four beers for 41 people, or eight beers for 20. That’s a lot of beers.

Most parties won’t need this, but if you’re spending the day with a large group of people, it’s worth it – especially if you get a quarter-barrel keg instead . But honestly, if fewer than 35 people come to you, you should probably just take on a few cases. In any case, you will have more variety.
