Turn Empty Liquor Bottles Into Beautiful Oil Lamps

I don’t know about you, but I hate throwing away empty liquor bottles. They are so beautiful and when I throw them in the trash can I feel sad. Fortunately, Food52 comes in brilliantly for your empty can: turns it into oil lamps.

Honestly, this advice couldn’t be more time-appropriate. Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and I can think of several more sexy light sources than an oil lamp made from a pretty bottle of amaro. Click the link below for details on how to do this, but you will need the following:

  • Empty containers: flat bottles with a low center of gravity are best; tall bottles tend to tip over
  • Oil: Food52 recommends Firefly oil .
  • Flat cotton wick: because you need to light something. You can purchase it from a craft store or online .
  • Funnel: for funnel.
  • Bottle wick : to hold the wick in the neck of the bottle. Food52 likes this one .

After collecting all the necessary supplies, wash the bottles, let them dry and fill them 2/3 full of oil. Cut a piece of wick about one and a half times the length of the bottle, thread it about an inch through the wick, and dip the remainder into the bottle. Let it hang and soak in the oil for about ten minutes, place it in the most romantic spot you can find, and light it.
