Wayback Machine for Chrome Finds Archived Copies of Broken Links
Chrome: The Wayback Machine from the Web Archive has long been a resource for browsing old versions of websites, whether you want to dive into ancient GeoCities or just see minor changes made recently. There is now a Chrome extension to make this even easier.
Specifically, the Wayback Machine for Chrome recognizes when you hit a 404 dead end (as well as other error codes) and checks to see if there is an archived version of that site. Whether someone unceremoniously deletes a page they didn’t want you to see, or a site is simply left to digital rot, you can easily check for the most recent archive without going to the Wayback Machine itself.
