Learn Eight Field Photography Techniques in 90 Seconds

If you’re looking to improve your field photography skills, these eight tricks can be done on common subjects that almost everyone has.

In this video, YouTuber and photographer Peter McKinnon shares eight of his favorite photography techniques he uses in the field. Here’s what he demonstrates:

  1. Belt Strap: Tie the strap to your camera to shoot from the cart or shoot beautifully.
  2. Coffee hood: Use the coffee cup cover as a makeshift lens hood.
  3. Dream guy: Take fabulous photos and videos by drawing a wand circle on your lens. Just be ready to clean it up when you’re done.
  4. Cello: Wrap plastic wrap in front of the lens for a cool effect.
  5. Tint Blending : Use sunglasses as an impromptu tint filter or for artistic tint overlays.
  6. Knife Blade: Use a pocket knife blade to bounce light into the camera lens for an interesting reflection effect.
  7. Torch Flash: Use a mini flashlight like on a keychain to direct light into the camera aperture behind the lens.
  8. Smart Flash: Use your smartphone’s flashlight to create a glittering flash effect.

If you are a photographer like me who wants to grow, these tips will come in handy. I will definitely remember them the next time I go out with the camera.
