Updating Facebook and Messenger Server Drains Users’ Batteries More Than Usual
A recent server update to the Facebook and Messenger apps caused a bug that was quickly draining users’ batteries, even more than those apps usually do . Fortunately this has been fixed, but you need to restart your apps.
The server update happened on January 10 and has been affecting users for several days, according to Facebook product manager . The update forced many devices to constantly use their processor at high frequencies, wasting battery power and generating a lot of heat. It even made it harder to use fast charging .
The server side bug has been fixed, but you may still need to restart these applications. You can do this by going to the Applications section of your settings, finding the two Facebook apps and clicking Force Stop. Or you can wait for your phone to die. Better yet, you can just use Facebook’s mobile site, which doesn’t drain your battery when you’re not using it.
