Create a Voice Controlled Automatic Cat Feeder

You have a surprising number of options for automatic cat feeders, but if you’d rather make your own, homemaker Darian Johnson shares his project that uses a Raspberry Pi, Alexa skill, and Amazon Dash.

The idea here isn’t all that hard, but it seems to work well. Cat food is packaged in a plastic container, a sensor detects how much food is inside the container, and the camera analyzes how much food is in the bowl and even sends you an image if it is full. When the container is empty, Dash can order more food. Alexa will do the rest, allowing you to ask Alex to feed the cat as much as you want. This is a small, complex project, but Johnson’s documentation will walk you through everything you might need.
