Why Focusing on Yourself Helps You Overcome Someone Else
Breaking up is difficult, but getting hung up on your ex and your old relationship is not great. You probably know this, but if you transfer your thinking about the old relationship to yourself and your needs, and not to the ex and what you no longer have, you can begin the process of moving forward.
Whether your breakup was due to distance, death, or you, or they just found someone else, instead of wallowing in what no longer exists or could have been, focus your energy on making a list of what what attracted you to the other person and what you liked about your relationship. You need to quickly realize that the qualities you need in a partner and in a romantic relationship can be found in others, and that your ex is not the only one who can meet your needs.
Even if you’re not ready for a date yet, making a list of qualities draws your attention to future opportunities and focuses your attention where it should be – you. And once you’re ready to dive into the dating pool again, you’ll have something to hold on to as you look for potential partners.
