Right before you go to bed with your partner or say goodnight to your roommate, what is the last time you talk about it? If this makes you anxious or angry, you might be better off changing the subject.

As tips site The Muse notes, certain topics tend to make our blood boil. Even if you agree with the other person, talking about how stupid that person was online can work against your goal of relaxing before bed:

Of course, this does not mean that you cannot talk about the things that bother you, if these conversations bring relief. Expressing emotions is a powerful way to deal with them. If you need a little consolation or are generally worried, feel free to talk about it. However, if you’re just going to focus on something beyond your control that can wait, give yourself time to rest instead.
