Get the Best Bread Without Sacrificing Convenience by Slicing a Fresh, Whole Loaf and Then Freezing It

The best toast starts with the best bread, but fresh baked bread or homemade bread tends to turn stale and moldy faster than a pre-cut bag. Every day to get a really good toast, without losing a single crumb, cut, and then freeze fresh piece of bread.

Freezing whole bread is already a great way to keep it fresh, but as Emily Weinstein of the New York Times notes, after thawing, you should eat it all up pretty quickly:

But when you defrost it, you repeat the problem with whole bread just taken out of the oven: if you don’t have a full house, you need to finish it before it gets stale. (Yes, you can make bread crumbs, but with an apology to the schnitzel and casserole lovers who actually need that many bread crumbs?) I only have two at home, so a large loaf of fresh bread is hard to pull off.

Pre-slicing before freezing allows you to enjoy the best bread at your leisure. Just buy your favorite fancy bread, cut it into thick, toast-worthy slices, place them in a plastic bag, and grab one whenever you want to serve up a nice toasty piece of bread.
