IOS 10.2.1 Reduces Unpleasant Accidental Shutdowns for IPhone 6 and 6s Owners
If you have an iPhone 6 or 6s, chances are that random disconnections are bothering you. Apple has a replacement plan that gives you a new battery, but if you haven’t gotten to it yet, you’ll be glad to hear that the newest version of iOS 10 seems to have fixed the issue.
In an interview with TechCrunch, Apple released the following statement:
In iOS 10.2.1, Apple made improvements to reduce the number of unexpected disconnections that a small number of users experience with their iPhones. With iOS 10.2.1, more than 50% of active iOS devices have already been updated, and the diagnostic data we received from the updates shows that for this small percentage of users experiencing the problem, we are seeing more than 80% decrease in iPhone 6s and a drop in the number unexpectedly disconnected devices on the iPhone 6 by more than 70%.
We’ve also added the ability to restart the phone without having to connect to a power source if the user is still experiencing an unexpected shutdown. It is important to note that these unexpected outages are not a security issue, but we understand that this can be inconvenient and wanted to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. If a customer has a problem with a device, they can contact AppleCare.
This is good news, especially since you can back up your iPhone at least now, which used to be a major problem. So, if you haven’t updated to iOS 10.2.1, do so now by going to Settings> General> Software Update. However, you should still replace this battery because at least it’s still a free new battery.
