Use This Website to Make Your Spotify Playlists Much Better
Algorithmic recommendations work in a mysterious way, and they do not always provide the correct solution. Every Spotify user has wondered how the hell this song ended up on this playlist – or why a song they accidentally liked once two months ago keeps popping up over and over again.
Songslikex offers an alternative to Spotify’s unreliable recommendation algorithms. It’s easy to use: go to songslikex.com, type in the song you like and press Enter. You will receive a customizable playlist that opens with a track of your choice, followed by 50 randomly selected tunes that sound the same. I recently had a playlist of “perfect songs”, so I fed Songslikex my current favorite tracks to see if there were any new additions to it.
Based on Prince’s song “When You Were Mine,” this playlist is certainly interesting – some of which are puzzling – but I’m ready for it:
I also sincerely feel the recommendations made on the basis of Bjork’s Hyperballada, and this is the first time I said this:
Like any other algorithm for creating playlists, Songslikex is not entirely sure how to find songs like Chris Isaac’s “Wicked Game”. There is not a single Orville Peck song that seems like a real gift:
Overall, Songslikex is fun and effective. I really enjoyed listening to these playlists, and as a bonus, they helped me find new artists that I might not have encountered otherwise. I also appreciate that the song selection is randomly generated because it gives you some degree of control over the algorithm’s output – if you don’t like the first try, you can keep trying. Each time you will receive something new. This is preferable to constantly listening to the same song on multiple Spotify radio stations and playlists with the same theme.
However, there is one drawback: Songslikex only works with Spotify, which is disappointing for anyone who prefers a different service. As one of dozens of people using Pandora Premium, I’m used to this sort of thing, but it still makes me sad. The playlists I got from Songslikex are amazing and I’d love to use them on Pandora, where I pay for the privilege of not hearing four 30 second ads for every third song. But if you use Spotify and want to shake up your playlists, try Songslikex.
