Rest of the Day: Google Adds Pet Trivia to Search Results
Did you know that three dogs survived the Titanic? I just found out about this from a Google search for “funny dog facts” as Google now offers funny animal and plant trivia in search results. About this and much more in today’s news.
- This may not be the most important feature update, but Animal & Plant Facts now appear at the top of search results when you’re looking for something like “fun hippopotamus facts” or “flower facts.” (By the way, did you know broccoli is actually a flower? Romance.) It’s just a fun feature that you can use to keep your kids or yourself entertained. I spend most of my day researching interesting facts about dogs, so this news is important to me. - The Twitterrific team is trying to raise money for a return to the Mac. The desktop version of their popular third-party Twitter client eventually faded into the background as they focused on the iOS version, but they hope die-hard users shell out $ 15 for the updated macOS client. - Verizon has cut its bid on Yahoo by $ 250 million. But that’s different from the $ 4.8 billion originally proposed deal, so in context it’s only a quarter billion, a simple little thing you can find between corporate sofa cushions. [Bloomberg]
- At the end of this week Pokémon Go get a bunch of new monsters. A major update will add 80 creatures, as well as some new evolution items and equipment options for trainers. [Kotaku]
- As of August 15, 2017, streaming of games on PlayStation Now will stop on all devices except PlayStation 4 and PC. They say it’s just a matter of reallocating resources to further develop the service, which lets you stream select PS3 games for a monthly fee. [PlayStation Blog]
