How Thieves Can Bypass Luggage Locks and What You Can Do
As you will soon find out, some travel bag locks are not as secure. If people really want to get into your luggage, they can do it with something as simple as a ballpoint pen.
Whether you are flying or storing valuables in your luggage for any reason, other people can end up in your bag by sticking a cheap ballpoint pen into the zipper, opening it and grabbing whatever is easy and visible. For some bags, it really is that simple.
If you really care about the safety of your belongings and cannot take them with you in your carry-on luggage, you can use a cable lock to first pass through the luggage frame (if possible) and then through your valuables. If you cannot thread the cable lock through an object, place it in a bag with a double zip through which you can thread the cable.
This does not completely prevent theft . This gives you time. The logic is that if someone finds it too difficult to steal your belongings, they might think it’s not worth the risk. However, keep in mind that when you fly, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will not hesitate to bypass or cut your locks and anything else if they have reason to investigate further .
