The Best Way to Eat Fresh Strawberries
Strawberries are delicious no matter how you eat them, but there is actually a way to make their sweetness even more flavorful. You probably ate strawberries backwards all the time.
In an episode of the NHK World J-Trip Plan, Daniel Donnie-Clarke visits Kiki’s Strawberry House, an all-you-can-eat strawberry farm along the Shimanami Highway and Seto Inland Sea in Ehime Prefecture. While there, the owner shows him how to pick strawberries correctly – turn the berries towards the bush and lift them, as well as how to get the maximum flavor from the strawberries.
Instead of holding the berry by its leafy crown and eating the pointed end first, you do the opposite. Tear off the leaves and eat the whole strawberries, top first, at a time. This way, the sweetest part of the strawberry, the pointed bottom end, will go straight to the tip of the tongue, so you can really taste the berry. You can watch the entire episode for free at the link below (the strawberry beat starts in about 23 minutes).
