How to Properly Fill a Piping Bag
Although I bake a lot, I have always found it difficult to decorate, especially if there are some pipes. No matter how hard I try, I end up with more frosting on myself than expected. But those days are behind me as baking connoisseur Stella Parks showed me how to properly fill those troublesome sacks.
I highly recommend that you watch the entire video to master the preparation and filling of a piping bag, but these are the basic steps:
- Insert the connector into the piping bag, then cut off the tip, making the hole large enough to fit the tip.
- Twist and tuck the bag into the sleeve to form a seal.
- Put on the bag with the tip and secure with the connecting ring.
- Toss it all into a drinking glass and fold the ends to the side so it stands up.
- Scrape off any frosting you use into an open bag and twist to close.
You are now ready to decorate all the cookies and cakes, but you can keep the pre-filled bags upside down until you’re ready to use them. (Step # 2 will prevent glaze leaking.)
