Ask for a Discount on a New Product If Something Goes Out of Warranty

Let’s say you break your watch or some other object or device. You check the warranty and it’s a bummer: it’s expired. If you are planning to buy a replacement, try asking the company for a discount.

At Rather Be Shopping, Kyle James explains how he discovered this tip when his Fitbit broke:

… unfortunately the warranty has expired for over a year. But on a whim, I went ahead and contacted Fitbit via chat and explained the situation … The live chat operator offered me a nice one-time 25% discount on the purchase of a new tracker. 25% off which is much better than any coupon I could find on over a dozen popular coupon websites.

James explains that he passed the advice on to a friend who had success with a Logitech product. Of course, these are just two examples, and your own experience may be different. This is purely a whim of the company and the customer service representative, but it is definitely worth asking, especially since many companies happily offer coupons for your business. Check out James’ full post for more details.
