What’s Cooking? What Spring Foods Do You Like?
Hello, and welcome to What’s Cooking? , a weekly open thread where you can share all your brilliant thoughts, tips, recipes and opinions on anything edible. Spring has arrived and while I am a little sad to see the Brussels sprouts go away, I am thrilled with all the delicious treats this new season brings.
Morels, fresh peas, rhubarb, apricots and artichokes are reason enough to bring me back to the kitchen with renewed vigor, and then there are the ramps, a popular and spicy, onion-like vegetable that drives gourmets crazy. Feel free to talk about any yummy topic that comes to your mind, including whether all this ramp hype is deserved, but here are a few questions to start with:
- What are your favorite spring foods and how do you prefer to cook them?
- Have you ever had a ramp? Do you understand what all the fuss was about? (I once had one fried in a coppa. It was good.)
- What’s the best way to eat rhubarb? (Is it pie? I feel like it’s pie.)
- Have you ever cooked fried morels? (A friend told me that her stepmother covered them with salt before frying, and now that’s all I want to eat.)
You can also use this thread to talk about what you plan to do with leftover winter vegetables. I need to hide the bloody oranges while I can still.
