Here’s How to Pour a Pint of Guinness, Paul Ryan
House Speaker Paul Ryan delivered a toast to St. Patrick’s Day yesterday with a truly sad pint of Guinness, to the consternation of Irish audiences and Guinness lovers around the world . The only way he could make it worse is if he dropped a shot of Bailey and Jameson at him. If you’re going to pour Guinness, here’s how to do it right.
The lunch was part of Irish Prime Minister Anda Kenny’s visit to Washington DC , where he met with President Trump and other leaders to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and a long-standing friendship between Ireland and the United States. However, this relationship is now under threat. thanks to Ryan’s cool glass of motor oil.
Well, fear not, there is still time to fix this crime against brewing. If you want to do it right, here’s what Fergal Murray, the Guinness Brewmaster, suggests :
- Start with a gravity beer glass, a tall session glass, or a 20oz tulip-shaped pint glass.
- Aim the glass under the spout (or can, or bottle) at a 45-degree angle and let the Guinness gently bounce off the edge of the glass and drain to the bottom. The glass with the Guinness logo has a harp to guide you.
- As the Guinness in the glass approaches the point where it first started to bounce, slowly tilt the glass to an upright position.
- When the liquid reaches the top of the rebound point, or harp, you stop casting and allow the foam to rise to the top of the liquid. Be patient! There should be space between the head and the top of the glass.
- As soon as the foam settles. Add some more Guinness so that the head forms a nice white dome along the top of the glass.
After the foam settles a second time, you can take a sip and enjoy. Do it to improve international relations, do it to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day, but above all, do it for fun.
