Why You Should Skip Email in the First Place in the Morning

It’s tempting to check your email right when you walk into your office, but it can ruin your workflow and eat up your creative time. This is what we mean.

Going to email first puts you in reply mode and distracts you by wasting your mind on non-essential tasks. Harvard Business Review explains how email reduces your productivity in the morning:

This is the time for focused strategic work and important conversations. If you read your email while standing up, your mind will be distracted and you will begin to move towards reactive leadership.

Skipping email in favor of head resting works best if you’re an early riser, because that’s when your mind is most creative and focused. If your mind is most active at other times of the day, apply it to this watch so you can ponder ideas instead of digging into email.
