Which Exercise Regimen Is Right for You?
We all know exercise is essential, but if you don’t like your daily routine, it’s easy to give up. Let’s talk about the fitness classes we’ve been able to stick to and see if we can inspire each other.
After jumping from routine to routine lately, including push-ups and bodyweight workouts, and a two-week pull-up challenge , I settled on a tough but simple weightlifting program called Starting Strength . I do this three times a week, ideally during my lunch break, and on other days I either go jogging or do some gardening. (I work a lot more in the yard now because I think of it as “sunshine and exercise” rather than “ugh, we need to cut the weeds again.”) And if the weather is bad, I always have Sworkit.
In just a few workouts, I’ve added 20 pounds to my squats and deadlifts, so I’m very happy to see where this leads. It also is easy to adhere to, because I can deal with them either in the small gym, which is very close to me, or at the YMCA across town with stunning fitness room . (I make a pilgrimage there every weekend.)
What did you do? Or, if you’re currently not feeling inspired, have you had a good routine in the past? Tell us about it:
- How long have you been doing this? Is it the same each time, or have you changed it over weeks / months / years?
- What helped you get started? If someone else was interested in what you do, what advice would you give them?
- What helps you? Are you involved in a team sport where you want to be together? Is there a marathon on your calendar? Are you trying to lose weight? Or do you just keep going because the routine is fun and rewarding for you?
