Turn Leftover Matzo Into a Delicious Snack With These Toppers
If you had a Passover Seder last night, you may have a few sheets of matzo left this morning. Although unleavened bread is a bit tasteless, it is the lack of vibrant flavor that makes it the perfect base for a snack masterpiece.
There is practically no limit to what you can pile on a cracker-like bread, so let your imagination run wild, but here are a few of my favorite matzo toppers:
- Cream Cheese + Smoked Salmon + Everything except Trader Joe’s Bagel Seasoning = Delicious Brunch
- Nutella + Huge Gorgeous Maldon Sea Salt Flakes = A simple, somewhat sophisticated sweet treat.
- Butter + Nutritional Yeast + Salt to Taste = A weird yet very addictive snack.
- Avocado + a couple of pieces of dried seaweed in crumb + green onions = a trendy light lunch
- Whipped goat cheese + fresh berries + some good balsamic vinegar = a healthy snack, almost like a dessert
- Chicken liver mousse + chopped gherkins = what I want for dinner tonight
- Hummus + Sliced Cucumbers + Kalamata Olives = Very Good Vegan Option
If all of this seems like too much effort, just dip it and put butter in your mouth. Matzah is a very good oil delivery system. [ Edit: as some of you have pointed out below, some of these ingredients (nutritional yeast and hummus) are not kosher for Easter, so skip them if you’re watching.]
