Happy Hour With 3 Ingredients: Pimma’s Royal Game
Hello everyone and welcome back to Happy Hour 3 Ingredients , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. We will be drinking Pimm’s Royale this week because I have just returned from the United Kingdom and am still on vacation.
I (obviously) went to a few cocktail bars across the pond and was amazed at how – with the exception of one classic- oriented establishment – they all served very fine drinks. (It’s important to distinguish cocktail bars from pubs; pubs don’t serve fine drinks.) I had a sourdough drink, a very tangled ice cube drink, and a North American coyote claw drink. “
It was all very fun and delicious, but I got in the mood for an easier drink. This, coupled with the desire to continue my British vacation, prompted me to reach for a bottle of Pimm’s . If you’ve never tasted gin-based liqueur before, it is a variety or fruity, slightly spicy, very refreshing and delicious. Rather than making an actual Pimm’s Cup , which requires a lot of side dishes, I opted for the lighter, more drinking Pimm’s Royale . To prepare this elegant elixir, you will need:
- 1 3/4 oz Pimm’s No. one
- Bubbles (champagne, prosecco and cava work)
- Strawberries for garnish
Chill a champagne glass or other long, thin glass for about 15 minutes. When it’s nice and cool, pour in Pimm’s and your bubbles and garnish with a strawberry wedge. You can stick it on the rim or put it on the flute. Damn it, you could even go crazy and stick a whole strawberry on the rim. After all, today is Friday.
