This Weird Trick Can Save You Tinnitus for a Short Time.

If you suffer from tinnitus or persistent tinnitus, this odd hand trick might give you a little respite.

As psychotherapist Stephen Geller Katz , founder of the Tinnitus Cognitive Center, explains in this YouTube Blissful Thinking video, tinnitus is the perception of sound in the absence of real external sound. For the 50 million Americans who suffer from it, this noise can take many forms, such as ringing, buzzing, hissing, and even clicking sounds. It can be caused by many reasons , including ear obstruction, head or neck injury, sinus pressure, brain injury, medications, and even medical conditions. But the most common cause is hearing loss.

I personally suffer from hearing loss, so I liked this advice. I can barely hear in my left ear due to a teenage accident and he calls quite often. I was curious to try it myself, but I was very skeptical. This is how it works:

  1. Place your palms over your ears with your fingers around the back of your head.
  2. Place your middle fingers on the top of your neck, right at the base of your skull.
  3. Place your index fingers on top of your middle fingers and push.
  4. Now click them on the back of your head over and over again, as if you were playing the drums.
  5. Repeat this about 50 times.

Ideally, when you remove your hands, you no longer hear the ringing, hiss, or buzzing sounds. When I tried it, there was definitely a change. I would not say that this is a miracle or something like that, but it seems that it made the ringing subside for a while – which was nice. However, after a few minutes everything was back to normal.

This video says the trick is from a Reddit post , but in fact, it has been around for a while. You can find the catch all over the tinnitus forums ,online doctors, andvarious other YouTube channels . In this video, it is specifically called “cure”, but unfortunately there is no real cure for tinnitus. That said, maybe this trick can at least give you some relief when you need a little quiet in your life. Perhaps right before you try to sleep at night. Just keep in mind that your experience may vary depending on this as it doesn’t seem to work for everyone. The video above even mentions that it only worked for half of the people they tested it on. So give it a shot and see what happens.
