These IPhone Apps Allow You to Remotely Stream Videos and Music With Your Friends

iPhone: Your favorite artist released a new album at midnight, and you would love to be close to your best friend, listen to him track after track and be horrified at how good the music is, but unfortunately, you are both in different places. You would usually think that the solution is to put the phone on speakerphone and thus have a listening party. But there is a better solution for this: the application is actually several.

New collaborative streaming apps like Uptime and Vertigo make it easy to listen to music in the same rhythm as your running partner, have a movie night with your spouse when you’re long distance, or just watch the latest viral videos from your best friends. … Both of these apps allow you to listen to or watch content and comment in real time, even when people are on opposite sides of the world.

Uptime, released publicly on Monday, is an iOS-only video app from the Google Area 120 incubator that lets you watch and react (similar to Facebook Live’s reactions) to YouTube videos in real time. The app was first released in March but was available by invitation only. (Although it was not necessary to receive an invitation, since the password was “PIZZA”.)

Since the app has only been publicly available for four days, Uptime is short of contributors. However, since the first launch, new features have been added to make it easier to find friends on Facebook. Uptime also added the ability to watch music videos with friends – a great addition since most people use YouTube for that. However, he still lacks private messages.

Another great collaborative streaming app that lets you listen to music with friends is Vertigo , which launched for iOS in November 2016. Vertigo syncs two people with their favorite music on Spotify and Apple Music. Think of it as a personalized radio station that allows friends to join and respond to songs in real time.

Since the app supports two of the most popular streaming sites, it’s easy to listen to anything from Prince to Taylor Swift. You can use this to work out a dance program, work out at the gym with friends, or just share a song with your significant other.

Vertigo and Uptime aren’t the only apps on the market that have remote streaming capabilities. Other applications and websites with the same concept include Gaze , Lisn, and Synaptop . Now, if only our favorite streaming sites like Netflix and Hulu would join in collective streaming.
