Amazon May Owe You Money for in-App Purchases Your Kids Made 6 Years Ago
There is no denying that using the Amazon Kindle is easy. However, a few years ago when it came to in-app purchases it was too easy and a ton of kids managed to accumulate big mom and dad credit card bills without anyone realizing it until it was too late.
The FTC recently announced that it will offer refunds for some of these unauthorized purchases, in particular for in-app purchases that occurred on Amazon devices between November 2011 and May 2016. Ease of purchase was cited as one of the reasons, as was the fact that some in-app purchases made it difficult for people to realize that they were spending real money and not in-game currency. If your child spent a lot of money on your Kindle during this roughly five-year period, you could potentially get some, if not all of that money back.
If you are eligible for a refund, Amazon should have sent you a notification email. If you have not received a note; however, you can still check if you have any money.
To do this, click here and log into your Amazon account. Once you have done this, you will either see on the page all purchases that are eligible for refunds, or a note stating that none of your purchases qualify. Amazon is allocating up to $ 70 million, so there’s a good chance that if you’ve bought the apps, you’re entitled to at least a few dollars.
Once you know what you are eligible for, follow the instructions on the page to apply for a refund between now and May 28, 2018.
