The Military Spends More on Viagra Than on the Medical Expenses of Transgender Soldiers
Our president ruled this morning that the military would “neither accept nor allow” transgender people to serve (fact-check: they are already coming in), citing “huge medical costs and disruptions.” So wait, what’s the dollar amount?
The military has been paying for drugs and surgery for transgender military personnel for almost a year, with an upper bound on the cost estimate of $ 8.4 million a year . If this sounds like a lot, remember that this is less than the cost:
- As Jenna Ruddock points out, Viagra is for soldiers ($ 42 million for branded Viagra, $ 84 million for erectile dysfunction drugs in general).
- Three of the president- sponsored golf trips ($ 3.6 million each).
- Two cents a year from your taxpayer dollars .
Just to put things in perspective.
