You Can Now (Finally) Pay for IOS Transactions With Your PayPal Account
Thanks to the partnership between Apple and PayPal, you can finally use all the money in your account effectively. Both companies announced a partnership that will allow PayPal to be used as a payment method on iOS devices. If you don’t have a debit or credit card, or just want to use your PayPal balance to cover your media purchases, now is your chance.
The function is long overdue. Users have been able to use PayPal to pay for iTunes purchases on Macs and PCs since 2004. To enable PayPal as a payment method, open the App Store or iTunes Store app and select your Apple ID at the bottom. On the Account Settings page, select Billing Information and select PayPal. Once you’re signed in, your default payment method will change from your credit or debit card to your PayPal account.
Almost all purchases made on your iOS device, be it apps, music, or subscription services, will be charged to your PayPal account. Unfortunately, since Apple processes purchases through Apple Pay, you cannot use your PayPal account for NFC-based transactions, according to a PayPal spokesperson.
While your PayPal account can display your Venmo balance, you won’t be able to use peer-to-peer money to fund your app habit. Right now, while some businesses that accept PayPal may accept payments from Venmo customer balances, this feature is currently not available when purchased from iOS. Hopefully PayPal will change its mind eventually.
