Using Social Media During Class Can Reduce Exam Scores
Getting a laptop for your upcoming college foray is great, but you should leave it alone during class. Students who voluntarily install browser-tracking software on their laptops spend nearly 40 minutes in a 100-minute class using the Internet for non-academic purposes, such as shopping or using social media, according to researchers at Michigan State University.
The more students spend online, the lower their exam scores. In contrast, students spent less than five minutes on their laptops during class for academic purposes.
