How to Find Out Which Spotify Songs Have Removed From Your Playlists

Spotify streams over 30 million songs and has over 2 billion playlists, so it can be difficult to keep track of the songs that come and go at times. If you’ve ever noticed that one of your favorite songs has stopped playing, don’t blame the algorithm right away; it just could mean that the song was removed from the streaming service.

Sometimes artists pull their music from Spotify, which automatically causes the streaming service to hide songs from the entire directory – without users being notified. But don’t worry: there is a setting that lets you see which songs have disappeared from your playlists. This is very useful if you want to keep buying songs from iTunes and still play them on Spotify as local files .

Go to Settings and under Display Options turn on Show unavailable songs in playlists (both mobile and desktop). When this toggle button turns green, all songs deleted by Spotify will be visible in your playlists. Song names will be grayed out, but you cannot play them.

Spotify does not provide any details on when the songs were deleted, why they were deleted, or when they will come back. Spotify sometimes deletes and hides songs that were released as singles and reissued with an album (e.g. Britney Spears’ Work Work ). So be sure to visit the artist page and add this song to your playlists again.

Some artists we know have taken their songs from Spotify due to streaming wars (Apple vs Spotify vs Tidal). However, some K-pop groups and indie artists have disappeared from Spotify as well. Other major artists whose music has been chosen include Rihanna’s old songs, some of The Killers and Thirty Seconds to Mars songs, and pre-2012 Lana Del Ray songs. Taylor Swift is gone, but now she’s back with her entire collection. We are still waiting for BeyoncĂ©’s Lemonade .
