How to Download the Entire Wikipedia to a USB Stick
Wikipedia may not always be the most accurate source of information, but it is one of those things for which I am constantly grateful. You can ensure that the site is always there for you, even if you don’t have an Internet connection, by downloading it in its entirety.
Last year we wrote about how to do this with an open source application called XOWA , but the process is actually even simpler.
Wikipedia regularly uploads its database, which literally just sits there for you to download. The site file is available to anyone who wants to and can be used for “mirroring, personal use, informal backups, offline use, or database queries.”
Right now, the entire file consists of 14GB of compressed data or 58GB uncompressed, which is quite the same as the capacity of a USB drive. All you have to do is go to this site and download it , saving it to a USB drive of your choice (I recommend the good Yoda ).
This is one of those things that you are not sure what you will need until you do this, but when the Internet as we know it runs out (or you just travel without Wi-Fi), you really need to know how many episodes of Golden Girls there were. ( 180 ), you will be happy to hide.
