When Is the Next Solar Eclipse?
If you missed today’s solar eclipse, fear not, there is still a lot to come. And some of them will be much more interesting to watch. Consider this your future solar eclipse planning guide.
Using historical data from NASA and Wikipedia , Tyler Conway of MicroStrategy was able to compile a useful map of solar eclipses. The green dot is today’s “big” solar eclipse, and the red dots are all future solar eclipses that will be visible in the United States. The size of a point is the duration of the solar eclipse, while the location of each point on the map represents the width of the path of the solar eclipse (or the area where it will be visible).
Here is a short description of what we can see in the States:
- April 8, 2024 (in black)
- April 12, 2045 (red)
- March 30, 2052
- May 11, 2078
- May 1, 2079
- September 14, 2099
But if you want to travel a little, there are still many solar eclipses ahead. Here are the next few that you may see elsewhere in the world (map links courtesy of eclipse-maps.com ):
So, as you can see, you really need to wait another two years if you plan accordingly. Start booking now!
Update: Added links to eclipse maps for upcoming solar eclipses that will occur around the world in the next 10 years.
