There Is Now a Hamilton App Where You Can (Potentially) Buy Tickets for $ 10
I haven’t had a chance to see Hamilton yet (and probably never will) due to the fact that tickets are known to be terrible to get. If you want to see it, you have to endure the ticket lottery, which, like any lottery, offers very little chance of success. Now the musical has added another way to catch tickets: the app.
The official Hamilton app was launched on Friday . This is where you can log in to win the opportunity to buy two $ 10 tickets to the show (by trading Hamilton for Hamilton, ha!).
Tickets are currently only available for the Los Angeles show, with 40 discounted tickets distributed with each lottery.
The lotteries open at 11:00 p.m. PST two days before each performance and close at 9:00 am the day before the performance, which means you won’t have much time to plan your trips if you really are a winner. Two hours after the lottery closes, officials will send you an email or text message to let you know you won and you will have until 4:00 p.m. PST to buy your ticket or you will lose. So, in essence, you better wait by the phone and have a completely free schedule (or be willing to drop everything for Hamilton) if that works at all.
The lotteries for the New York show will begin in-app on August 22nd, and tickets for the Chicago show will be available on August 29th.
Even if you don’t win tickets (which, let’s face it, is likely to happen), there are several other Hamilton-themed features in the app. In particular, news about music, virtual stickers and the #HamCam feature for creating selfies on the theme of Hamilton.
In the future, they also promise a new augmented reality feature, interactive karaoke tracks and “exclusive ticket access” soon. So, perhaps the lottery won’t be the only way to get tickets using the app in the future.
