Don’t Put Your Photo on Your Resume

Sure, your LinkedIn profile probably has your bright and upbeat face front and center, inviting people to explore your professional background, but don’t assume that using the same tactics on your resume will get you a job in the real world. In fact, some hiring managers prefer that you don’t use images.

According to Quartz , even though LinkedIn profiles get 21x more views when they have photos, resume images are considered odd and can actually affect your chances of hiring by influencing your subconscious bias. Affluence cues or names usually associated with job seekers’ ethnicity can often affect whether a job seeker receives a call for interviews.

Some companies, such as professional services firm Deloitte, have taken steps to eliminate unconscious bias by removing identifiable information such as university names. Combined with the de facto résumé space limitation, it seems like avoiding images might just make your job search easier.
