ASMR Playroom – is it awful, or is it just me?
TikTok’s weird warning: TikTok creator ASMR Playroom is filming a video of her playing with her child’s toys to ensure a “truly peaceful getaway.” According to her, her channel “brings you back to this quiet place – to your childhood.”
Don’t judge anyone’s entertainment, but this channel combines two things that I absolutely don’t understand: ASMR and childhood nostalgia. I find the whole ASMR very strange. I am not reassured by repeated videos of people whispering, eating, brushing their hair, or playing with toys. I find them alarming. And nostalgia for childhood seems inexplicable to me. Who wants to return to childhood? Children smell bad, do not understand irony, they cannot drink gin.
