Now Alexa Will Play Music to Suit Your Mood

Now you can ask Alexa to set the mood for you.

Amazon this week introduced 500 new voice commands that let you ask your assistant to play music suitable for different modes and actions. For example, you can ask Alexa to play music at a dinner party or get some sleep. You can also ask for things like “play music” or “make music for a child.”

Each request can be further narrowed down by genre. For example, you can ask for classical music for a nap, or hip-hop music for a workout.

This feature only works for customers who have Prime Music (free with every Prime membership) or Amazon Music Unlimited ($ 3.99 / month subscription service for one device).

While I imagine asking Alexa to play “toddler music” is a quick route to not making any kids, I understand how asking for a melody for a dinner party or casual party can actually be quite helpful.

I know that I work on playlists for beautiful music at every social event I work as a DJ, transferring money to Alexa could save a lot of time. At least it’s a quick way to find the right tunes when you’re cooking, trying to chill out a bit, or needing to cheer me up a little.

Alexa already allowed requests for music by genre, artist, and specific song.
