Build a Raspberry Pi Happiness Tracker to Record Morale
If you are still using an office water cooler to judge the morale of your office, you might need an upgrade. Sometimes it’s as simple as pressing a button to track how you’re feeling. This is exactly what the SEO specialist and programmer Katya Budnikova achieved by building an office happiness tracker during her company’s hackathon.
With a Raspberry Pi, LEDs, and four buttons, the happiness tracker records four emotional states ranging from very good to bad. The button click is recorded and displayed in Grafana, a database visualization tool. There is a 5-second delay after each button press to reduce distortion in the results.
Katya placed a happiness tracker near her office entrance to track the mood of employees who come to work or leave at the end of the day.
Tracking your happiness or emotions in general can help you identify patterns in your behavior that affect your emotional state. If you always wake up grumpy , recording your grumpy state over a period of time can help you figure out why, make changes that will improve your mood, or help you appreciate your morning. And if you’re managing a team of people, tracking morale can give you valuable insight into your team’s state of mind and the positive changes you might want to make.
