You Can Now Stream Movies by Criteria With a Library Card
All types of media can be rented from the local public library, from audiobooks to albums and films on physical discs. But some libraries, such as the Los Angeles Public Library, offer movie streaming through Kanopy , a video streaming service specializing in independent films, documentaries, and classic films. And now Kanopy expanding their offerings in the systems of public libraries of New York and Brooklyn Public Library .
Kanopy offers over 30,000 films to watch, including the Criterion Collection, a series of hundreds of “classic and contemporary” films. To use the service, you will need a valid NYPL or BPL card. Brooklyn Public Library visitors can watch up to six films a month, and New York Public Library visitors can watch up to ten, with your limit reset to zero at the beginning of each month.
You also have three days to watch it from the moment you hit the play button, which is an improvement over traditional streaming video rentals, which usually only allow you to watch a movie for 24 hours. You can watch your free rental movies on your PC or Roku, iOS and Android devices.
