These Reader-Approved Versatile Craftsmen Will Make Your Kitchen a More Enjoyable Place.
Single-function kitchen appliances don’t usually inspire much love , but when we asked you all about your favorites, you made some very enthusiastic product recommendations. Some have been my longtime favorites, but some of you have managed to suggest items we haven’t even heard of. Below are some of our favorites.
Fruit slicers, slicers and peelers
While I believe peeling fruit with a knife is good for all culinary abilities, dedicated fruit peelers and slicers do the job much faster, and I love anything that allows me to put food in my mouth faster. Mango splitters , apple slicers and pineapple samplers all help one achieve, and you love them for that.
(Don’t feel like buying a mango splitter? You can also use a half liter glass )
(Honestly, I live for the drama in the comment above.)
Handy heat helpers
Because I hate the lack of dexterity associated with using oven mitts, I usually grab hot pots and pans with a tea towel. This resulted in several minor burns that could have been avoided if I had known about the Ove ‘Glove, which protects your dexterous fingers without restricting their movement.
Welding gloves, it turns out, work pretty well too.
This fun-loving guy can also keep your hands (and arms) free from scalding by grabbing and pulling out your oven grates for easy access.
Rinsers and spinners
There is a direct link between whether I have a salad spinner and the amount of green leaves I consume. (Because yes, as some of you have pointed out, the salad in the bags does smell weird.)
Likewise, it seems like this rice washer / dryer will lead to a dramatic increase in rice consumption and I have to thank the wax for bringing this to my attention.
Other great Randos
In addition, there are some truly unique items and devices that cannot be categorized but are still very useful. First, it’s a savior for snacks:
Onion glasses may look ridiculous, but are they really funnier than crying over a cutting board?
Speaking of ridiculousness, I kind of want this Smart Cutter now, if only to smash it at parties, and get down to a very smart cut.
In the end, we have an extremely useful rubberized shelf pad that can do much more than just flatten your shelves.
Great job, everyone. Since I currently don’t own any of these items – I still need to replace my salad spinner that broke during the move – I’ll add most, if not all, to my wishlist. So thank you all for that.
