How to Prepare for Work From Home
The day before you work from home, be sure to transfer all important files as Fast Company points out in its guide to working from home . If you’re using a different computer, sync everything using Dropbox, email, or USB drive. Even if you are using the same computer or rely mainly on cloud services, be sure to also prepare for any two-factor logins and anything that won’t work on your corporate VPN. And bring home any physical documents.
FC also recommends setting up your workspace the night before: remove distracting “household items” and replicate your work environment as much as possible. When you are at home, it can be difficult to get distracted from your normal work day. Don’t waste your morning making adjustments.
Create as many of your familiar office amenities as possible – you’ll be surprised how distracting it can be if you don’t have your favorite coffee mug or headphones. And clean up the mess in the house. The idea is to replicate your regular workplace for a day.
If you use your personal computer during the day, turn it into a “work mode” too: close your regular home tabs like your personal email, turn off any notifications you don’t have on your work computer, and maybe even create another Chrome account .
