You Can Measure Vanilla Extract Using a Bottle Cap
While my job is to seek out and discover all kinds of kitchen tips and tricks, sometimes I find that the best advice comes from you in the comments section. That was the case this morning when the commentator Aunt Mumpsimus pointed out that most of the corks from the extract bottles can be used as measuring spoons.
Eager to test this advice, I ran to my closet and grabbed the vanilla. I poured enough to fill the lid, then poured this aliquot into a teaspoon and was thrilled to find it matched. It should be noted that this doesn’t work with every bottle of extract – my fancy peppermint extract had a cap too small – but for regular brands like McCormick, this trick works.
